Kenyatta D. Gentry is a highly skilled martial artist with over 20 years of experience in Lotus Self-
Defense. As a second-generation practitioner, Kenyatta holds a 5th-degree black belt and has dedicated
his life to mastering and teaching this unique martial art. Lotus Self-Defense, which blends Muay Thai
Boxing, Kenpo, Judo, and Aikido, was founded by his father, Jack J. Gentry, in Ubon Ratchathani,
Thailand. Kenyatta began his training in 1988, following in the footsteps of his father, and has since
become a respected figure in the martial arts community.
Throughout his career, Kenyatta has participated in numerous martial arts tournaments, earning
recognition as the United States Junior Karate Circuit "Competitor of the Year" in the Southeastern
Division from 1996 to 1998. His competitive success is matched by his dedication to teaching, where he
has provided private self-defense training to security staff at local nightclubs, conducted self-defense
seminars for the Battered Woman's Shelter in Charlotte, and led martial arts summer camps at local
Presbyterian Churches.
